ABOUT
Developed to promote the release of the film, fans could launch and scale an AR version of George the Gorilla, Lizzie the Alligator and Ralph the Wolf in any environment. Harnessing ARKit, users could anchor each animal to either the ground or a wall. When in attack mode, the app would sample the device’s camera feed in real time around each creature to trigger destruction particle effects that match the texture of the user’s environment. In addition to placing the creatures in their world, users could scan select posters to trigger an animation of George breaking through the poster. They could also watch the trailer, purchase tickets, access an online version of the original Rampage game, and sign-up for exclusive updates from Warner Bros. Pictures.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson announced the app via social media and challenged fans worldwide to get creative. Those who shared their AR creations using the hashtag #RampageMovie were entered to win an opportunity to meet The Rock at either the US or UK film premiere.
To promote the DVD release, a new feature was introduced allowing users to scan the Blu-ray covers and unlock an AR experience featuring a Willis Tower-like building. In this AR scene, users could watch George scale the building and tap a "smash" button to make him destroy it.
